DC should have done this years ago, but the city has become uber-timid and afraid to try anything new regarding infrastructure. I'm sure this has very little to do with the current administration.

The coating, called "StreetBond CL" was created to hold up well to traffic wear and tear. It is also engineered to maintain the same or higher levels of friction as the asphalt itself. This is an important safety consideration for cyclists. Particularly in wet weather.

Wouldn't that make braking bicycles (and even cars) more dangerous
