After a successful first event of giving away free bike light sets, BikeArlington and a handful of very helpful volunteers held two more give away events in November and December.
The November event took place at the intersection of the Custis Trail, Mt. Vernon Trail, Lynn St. and Lee Highway near the Key Bridge. Held soon after the Daylights Saving time change, many cyclists were caught unaware by earlier sunset times. The December event took place at the intersection of the W&OD Trail, Four Mile Run Dr. and Columbia Pike. Despite chilly temperatures, a number of hardy bikers passing stopped to have lights installed.
All in all, more than 100 sets of front and rear lights were giving away during this fall's efforts. In addition to lights, we also gave out reflective arm/leg bands, Arlington County bike maps, and the Sharing The Road in Virginia Laws and Safety Tips brochure in English and Spanish.
