Twas two weeks before expiration
And all through the House (and Senate)
Not a creature was compromising
Not even the Big Mouse
The bills were all hung by the pages with care
In hopes that some change soon would be there...
Alright - so it wasn't as idyllic as Moore's holiday tale but the good news is that the transit benefit has indeed been extended! Last night the House passed a bill that extended the "Bush Tax-Cuts" that included an extension of the transit benefit parity until 2012. It is anticpated that President Obama will be signing it today making the extension official.
Parity is safe from inequality for one more year. Thank you to the Senators and Congressmen and women who supported the effort, but also to those of you who called, wrote, and emailed your representatives. This hurdle is definitely worth celebrating, but remember our work isn't finished. Until the transit benefit is no longer an extension and is made permanent, we still have work to do.

This has the effect of raising taxes on middle-class workers, "said the American Public Transportation Association President William Millar said in a statement.
