Last month's Snowpocalypse forced cancellation of the Clarendon Alliance's signature Mardi Gras Parade, originally scheduled for February 16. Undaunted, the Alliance decided to make shamrocks out of snowflakes and hold a St. Patrick's Day Parade in its place.
The parade was held last night, St. Patrick's Day Eve, one month to the day after Mardi Gras, and the luck of the Irish graced the event with much better conditions - sun replaced snow, spring temperatures replaced wind chills, and lucky charms replaced Mardi Gras beads.
Participants ranged from WalkArlington walkers pushing festively decorated pedestrian carts, BikeArlington cyclists on two wheels, and Phoenix Bikes on a cyborg-powered bike (see Tim's post from earlier this bright morning) to Irish Dancers, DC Roller Girls, and the Louisiana State University Crewe.
Fun was had by all, and the celebration continues today, so if you missed last night's parade, put on some green, and come out to Clarendon-Courthouse for dining, shopping, and entertainment - even the Farmer's Market is open tonight until 7!
And St. Patrick's Day is the perfect occasion to go green by going car-free -- just don't drink and walk or bike! May the wind be at your back and may the sidewalk/bike path rise up to meet you...
