The results of the 2008 American Trails Website Contest are in, and WALKArlington.com, the website for Arlington County's WALKArlington program, has been honored with the Winning Website Award in the category of “Promoting Trails for Health and Active Living.”
Launched in 2002 by American Trails, the Website Contest seeks out “the best websites in the cyberworld of trails and greenways.” Each year, American Trails solicits nominations and recognizes those sites “that really make trails come alive, provide effective information delivery, support volunteers, and engage the public.”
According to American Trails, the Website Contest also helps "showcase how advocates and agencies are making a difference for trails." Click here for a list of 2008 winners by category, as well as all this year'sWebsite Contest nominees.
The WALKArlington American Trails Website Contest nomination focused on the program’s series of 16 (and counting) “Walkabouts” (walking tours), which invite people who live, work, and play in Arlington to explore local neighborhoods, parks, and trails via self-guided maps and video Walkabouts. Walkabout maps, narrative and videos are all posted on-line.
The WALKArlington website’s graphics and site design, described by visitors as fun, irreverent, and information-packed, were also cited in the nomination for their fresh site design elements, innovative use of technology, and user-friendly presentation of the many pedestrian resources the County has to offer.
In addition to a certificate and recognition on the American Trails website, this award has earned WALKArlington the right to display the American Trails Winning Website logo on the WALKArlington site. So let your fingers do the walking and check it out!
