As you may recall from a previous post, the Governor of Virginia is encouraging his entire commonwealth to telework on Monday, August 3rd. Currently, 28 organizations and many more individuals have pledged to telework. I am happy to announce Arlington Transportation Partners (ATP) is one of them, which includes me. WOOT!
By having 13 employees on our staff telework on Monday, we are saving the following by participating in Telework Day:
$343 - Total amount saved
456 - Number of pounds of pollutants
.23 - Number of tons of pollutants
However, if our 13 employees would telework once a week for one year (50 weeks since we all need a vacation, right?) we could save:
$17,151 - Total amount saved
22,796 - Number of pounds of pollutants
11.40 - Number of tons of pollutants
We received all of these handy-dandy stats by pledging. If you aren't able to pledge to telework on Monday, but need some ammunition for why your company should implement a telework program, feel feel to go the telework exchange website to register. By setting up an account you can figure out what you or your organization could save by using the telework savings calculator. After all, if you can't convince your organization with the environmental impact of teleworking, surely the Finance office will be enticed by the other kind of "green" savings.
