Want to avoid long lines on Nov. 4? If you live in Virginia and you work, say, in D.C., you can vote absentee "in person" until this Saturday.
Here in Arlington, folks have been lining up this week to do just that -- they are using the regular voting machines... and contrary to some crazy rumor, YES, the votes count! (I don't know where this bad info came from!) The lines here are running about 45 minutes to an hour. I voted absentee myself a few weeks ago.
As for Nov. 4, please try to walk, bike, take transit or carpool! Things will be crazy enough around here! In Arlington, we have only 26 square miles but we have 51 polling places... hopefully close enough so that you really can walk or bike. Here's hoping that enough folks will take a car-lite approach and we can avoid traffic gridlock on the 4th. See our 2008 Election Survival Guide>>>
