May is Bike Month and Arlington has a full list of things for the beginner to experienced cyclist to do.
Confident City Cycling Classes:
Through Confident City Cycling classes designed for adults, we'll teach beginner bicyclists you how to do just that - ride safely and confidently in an urban environment. The class includes three hours of classroom instruction with a certified instructor. And it's FREE! Upcoming classes are THIS WEEKEND at Aurora Hills Community Center, 5/26 at the Central Library, and 6/23 at Lee Community Center. Classes fill-up quickly, so register soon at WABA.org.
Bike to Work Day:
This annual event brings out thousands of folks to bike to work on Friday, May 18. Arlington has two morning commute pit stops, one in Rosslyn and another in Crystal City. Breakfast snacks, coffee, and t-shirts will be provided for everyone and bike accessories and prizes will be raffled. Last year's event in Rosslyn's Gateway Park had over 400 attendees and from registrations for this free event, we're looking to have a lot more this year. Register on-line at WABA.org for this free event.
Arlington & Alexandria Community Bike Ride:
The third year of this annual ride will be on June 3. The Community Tour is a 23-mile ride through Arlington and Alexandria's trails and bike lanes and the Family Ride is a 7-mile car-free ride only on trails. For only $15 for adults and free for children 13 and under, the Ride will provide fun, exercise, and music, prizes, and a free bell to all registrants. Register on-line at WABA.org. (Volunteers are needed for the Ride, so those wanting to help out and ride for free should contact Jeff Peel at WABA.)
