Noted urbanologist Ed Risse over at Bacon's Rebellion in a post (Autonomobility, March 18, 2007) a couple weeks ago (sorry I missed it - I was on vacation) lauds a recent column by the Washington Post's Warren Brown. Says Risse: "In both his "On Wheels" and "Car Culture"columns, Brown makes a lot of sense concerning private vehicles and their impact on human settlement patterns." We think so too, as we've shared Mr. Brown's columns with our readers in the past.
In this particular case (There Ought to Be a Law, March 18, 2007; Washington Post), Mr. Brown writes to the Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and asks why consumers aren't asked to contribute to helping solve the problems of our dependence on oil and helping to alleviate the risks of global warming without asking them to pay something extra in the form of higher gasoline taxes? Agreed. Both columns are good reads. Enjoy.
