Following up on yesterday's post (More on Those Lexus um HOT Lanes, April 8, 2007) comes word from reporter Joe Rogalsky (HOT Lanes Stir Mass-Transit Worries, April 9, 2007, The Examiner) that local transit officials are afraid that the proposal to convert the I-395 HOV lanes to HOT lanes could slow down their buses. As a result they are seeking some guarantees that the private companies operating these lanes would be "committed to preserving mass-transit capabilities" or they'll put off approval of the agreement. So if the transit folks and the carpool/vanpool folks who use these lanes are skeptical, why is there a rush to do this?
