Hard to believe Opening Day is Monday. Hurray!
Dr. Gridlock has an excellent post (Neighbors Worry About New Stadium Traffic, March 31, 2007; WashingtonPost.com) about the traffic and parking issues involving the new baseball stadium rising in the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood. Hopefully the new Nats owners, Metro and the City will form a cooperative partnership and make it as easy as possible for people to take Metrorail and Metrobus to the game. Hopefully that means additional service and some incentives for ticket holders to not drive. And how about some water taxis too!
I'm not sure how it would work here, but in Portland, Oregon where the minor league team plays downtown, your ticket to the game also works on the MAX light rail and Tri-Met buses for that day so you have free transit to the game. Hmmmm, the Lerners and Metro have a year to work on this. Let's hope they come up with something innovative.
For this year, whether you are driving and parking (at least carpool) or taking Metro, the Dr. has some good tips on getting to RFK Stadium too. Play ball!
