I'm still on my quest to buy a bike, after having not ridden one regularly since, oh, college days. I've been to a couple of area bike shops, and have found the staff to be helpful. I find it useful to explain right up front that I'm a novice bike buyer -- that way they can use words that I understand!
My husband Bob is also looking to buy a bike -- after all, it will be a lot more fun riding on trails together. He did some research and wanted to visit a big box store. OK, why not?
At the big box store, we found a few bikes that would be appropriate. And the prices were certainly very low. However, there was no choice of frame size, something that made me uncomfortable.
But what made me really uncomfortable was the fact that no one on staff could really answer any questions to any degree of authority. I was just too uncomfortable. But not Bob! He found a hybrid, made by Schwinn, that he liked and purchased. Here's his bike!
Hey, it's a basic bike, it seems to fit him well and he likes it. We've already registered it with the Arlington County Police Department, something every bike owner should do. One down, one to go!
